After someone visits my website, how do I get them to come back? This is a common question that many business owners have. Most of us, when we are browsing the web for a particular product or service, are “window shoppers”. We visit many different websites hoping to find the best deal on whatever it is we are looking for. If we have a plumbing issue we go online, search for “Plumbers in San Diego”, and one by one we start looking at different Plumber’s websites, yelp reviews, maybe even taking a peak at their social media accounts if they have any. The problem with this scenario is that there are hundreds on Plumbers in San Diego. After a few hours of research are we going to remember all of the websites that we visited? No, we are not. Why? Because we simply can’t retain that much information. Likely we will only remember a handful of plumbers and make our decision based on what our memory allows. This is where Retargeting, or Remarketing as some call it, comes in to play. Retargeting serves as a way to remind your potential customers that they visited your website. This is done by displaying your personalized ads to website visitors as they browse other websites online. For example, let’s say Sandy visits your website after searching online for services that you offer. Yours is the first website she visits and she sees something that catches her attention making her conclude that you may be the right person for the job! However, being the modern day shopper that she is, she likes to compare ALL of her options and make an informed decision. So she leaves your website and moves on to 50 other websites all offering the same services that you do. At this point Sandy has completely forgotten about you because now you are just one of hundreds of businesses offering the same service in your area. Now Sandy decides to take a break because she has too many choices and its just becoming overwhelming. She decides to catch up on some news and goes to her favorite news website. She finds an article that catches her attention and begins to read it. As she’s reading, she notices on the right hand side of the webpage an ad displaying your website and the services that you offer. Suddenly she remembers your website, clicks on the ad, and she is taken back to your website giving you another chance to sell her on your services!
That is Retargeting in a nutshell and it’s a VERY effective method of advertising that I offer here at Artisan Web Craft. If you would like to learn more about Retargeting and how it can help your business please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
